Shaima Al-Tamimi, a Yemeni-East African filmmaker and documentary photographer. She uses her lived experiences to address social issues focusing on family, healing, and sociocultural dynamics. Her short film Don't Get Too Comfortable premiered at Venice Film Festival and showcased at over 45 film festivals, museums, and art galleries worldwide. Her works have been supported by Prince Claus Fund, Magnum Foundation, American Film Showcase, and Doha Film Institute.
Mayar captures the lives of her Palestinian family who made Doha their home 60 years ago. Led by her mother Amal, who is approaching retirement, they once again grapple with the dilemma of moving or fighting to remain.
