Jamal Ademola is a Nigerian-American multi-hyphenate artist and filmmaker who creates across film, video, animation, painting, installation, and performance. His work delicately examines black identity, memory, romanticism, poetics, and the concept of being. He is currently in production on a hybrid docu-fiction feature film titled Ellas Vinieron de Las Nubes and writing a visual auto-ethnographic film project about the African diaspora titled Pieces of You. Jamal is the creative director of The Blind Couple from Mali (2024), an upcoming feature documentary film about Grammy-nominated musicians Amadou and Mariam produced by French conglomerate Mediawan and Makers. As an actor, he appeared in Imagine a Moon Colony on the Hulu TV series Your Attention Please and Ten Cent Daisy, streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Tubi.
Jamal's recent exhibitions and screenings include showings at (BCA) Black Cultural Archives in London (2023), Alchemy Film & Arts Festival (2023), Kala Art Gallery (2022), The New School (2022), and Untitled (AWCA) White Space Creative Agency in Lagos, Nigeria (2021). His work has been generously supported by the 2021–22 Kala Media Art Award, the 2022 PAM-CUT Sustainability Labs Fellowship, the 2023 Black Experience on Xfinity Grant Program from Comcast (NBCUniversal), Firelight Media, and he is a 2023 CDDP Semi-Finalist. Ademola has been awarded artist residencies at Wassaic Project, Santa Fe Art Institute, Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, Pocoapoco, Kala Art Institute, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Caldera Arts. He is represented by Where the Buffalo Roam for commercials, film & television.
