STANLEY NELSON TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AT THE 37TH ANNUAL NEWS & DOCUMENTARY EMMY® AWARDS

unnamed

We are so excited to announce that our very own Stanley Nelson is the Lifetime Achievement honoree for the 2016 News & Documentary Emmy Award. Since 1989, Stanley has chronicled the African American experience in America. From portraits of iconic figures like Madame C.J. Walker to explorations into defining moments like Freedom Summer, Stanley is a master of the documentary craft and mentor to the next generation. Congratulations to Stanley on this well-deserved honor!

On top of that, our most recent Firelight film, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking! The Black Panthers is the first feature-length document of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense; the film continues to engage audiences in a moment when police violence and accountability dominates our national conversation.

For over fifteen years, Firelight has worked to change the story. We are honored to lead a community creating exceptional non-fiction storytelling by and about diverse filmmakers. Please join us in congratulating Stanley and The Black Panthers production team online using #ChangingtheStory!
