MORE THAN A MONTHJoin Us for a Special Screening of this Provocative New Film!
Saturday, January 28 @ 4 PM
Schomburg Center: Harlem, USA
with Producer/Director Shukree Hassan Tilghman and other special guests!
You are invited to an exciting screening of More than a Month, a provocative new film by African-American filmmaker, Shukree Hassan Tilghman. Shukree is a participant in Firelight Media Producers' Lab. The premiere will be held at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in collaboration with BlackPublicMedia.org, Firelight Media and Columbia University's Institute for Research in African-American Studies (IRAAS).
More Than a Month is a feature documentary that follows Tilghman on a cross-country campaign to end Black History Month. Through a challenging, complex, and often comedic journey, More than a Month explores what the treatment of history tells us about race and equality in “post-racial” America.
After the screening, the audience is invited to join media personality Amanda Seales as she leads a conversation with Shukree Hassan Tilghman, Schomburg Director Khalil Gibran Muhammad and filmmaker Sharon LaCruise (Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock) about the issues the film invites us all to consider. The exciting discussion will be streamed live on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/BlackPublicMedia
*This program is FREE and open to the public. For registration, go to www.schomburgcenter.eventbrite.com or call 212-491-2040.
More than a Month is funded in part by NBPC, ITVS and CPB and is also supported through the Firelight Media Producers' Lab. The film will air on the PBS series Independent Lens on February 16, 2012. Please check your local listings.
