FREE Exhibit at the Birmingham History Center on the Freedom Riders

The Birmingham History Center will hosting a FREE traveling exhibit the month of September (Sept. 1-29, excluding Labor Day and Sunday) focusing on the Freedom Riders civil rights journeys from Washington D.C. to New Orleans in 1961. The exhibit marking the 50th anniversary of the historic rides to end segregation in interstate travel is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the PBS history channel, American Experience. It was assembled to accompany the film Freedom Riders that aired on PBS in May 2011. All museum admission is free during September.

The exhibit consists of panels with text and photos, and has an audio guide accessible by cell phone. The exhibit is produced by Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, a NYC educational nonprofit. For more information, go to the Birmingham History Center's Facebook Page.
